"Other symptoms of anxiety attacks include intense scratching (as if digging a place to hide), hiding in closed spaces (behind a couch, in a closet), whining, urinating on oneself, shutting down (flat, overwhelmed affect), accelerated heart rate, panting, pacing, and sweaty paws. These are signs that your dog is very stressed out and can mean he's afraid, feeling stressed or is suffering from an anxiety attack (all of which are horrible states, but which are somewhat different).
Anxiety attacks are typically prompted by the owner's absence, thunderstorms, other loud noises (for example, a train that comes by consistently), car rides, vet or groomer, and learned behavior (for example a rescue dog may panic when left alone with an adult male based on his history). Each one of these has a different solution and not all the symptoms have to be present to qualify as true anxiety."
Apparently he spent a good portion of last night hiding under the deck after Rob took him out. He would not come back in, he was impossible to grab.
Doesn't seem any worse for wear, except that he's still all a-tremble.
Doggie Valium, anyone?
(By the way, how the heck am I going to be able to tell if he has sweaty paws?)

Thunderstorms and fireworks do this to Boo. He ended up last night in our bed, Tony gone, curled up by the pillows with head on me, trembling. Fireworks not good. Covering one ear seemed to work. Basically be there for him, pet him if he lets you and if not let him find a place where he feels safe and let him be. Boo ended up on the floor by my side of the bed, or in the hallway or by my side of the couch.
Thunderstorms and fireworks....same here. Night before last Chuck was barking and barking and barking every 15 min or so.
Last night was better.
Hope Jed gets better soon too.
Oh dear. You and me, Jed. You and me.
Duece too- fireworks and thunder. Can't console him no how- no way. Digs non stop in the corners, on our beds, behind the tv (which is not very good for the electrical cords)until you literally have to pick him up and put him in his crate just to keep him safe from himself.
I have used a herbal remedy called "rescue remedy". It does work but sometimes takes a bit of time to kick in so the sooner you can get it in the better. Good luck!
We moved in the summer of the Pan Am games. Fireworks every night. The girls hated that. It got better when they got older and deaf!
