Yes, we have a baby

A few weeks ago, a couple from our centre discovered that, because of their past, they would not be allowed to take their child home with them. Although they had cleaned up their life,  Child and Family Services determined the child needed a foster home. And so they asked us.

And so we have a beautiful, sweet baby girl living with us for an as yet undetermined amount of time.

Wow. This has rocked our world.

I am thankful for a supportive family, and for a sister who takes turns getting up at night so I am not completely comatose during the day. I am thankful that people with babies get the front of the bus. I am thankful that this baby is really easy going and content. I am thankful for formula, for diapers that are even smaller and skinnier than when I had kids. I am thankful she is small. She's gained four ounces on her birth weight and it brings her up to 5 lbs 11 oz (that's about 2.6 kg for those of you who measure that way).

We brought her home on a Friday. Had someone told me on the Monday of that week that Friday would bring a brand new baby into our home, I would not have believed it. I would have said that we would never do that... I would have laughed, as Sarah, wife of Abraham laughed when she was told she would give birth at the age of 90 or so.

"Whatever the universe brings you..." said my friend to me today.

Indeed.

With the first post I sort of assumed that someone from work had come over for coffee, but NO!!!!

Goodness gracious..what fun! Glad she's a sweety and that you've got some help too.

All I can think is how wonderful it is for this little life to begin her days surrounded by love and care, songs and cuddles - all the while feeling safe and secure. What a gift.
