Left Behind...

Jed is very fast. He runs fast when he is romping with Dixie. He runs fast when he is playing fetch. He runs fast when he see geese nibbling grass in the distance.

But he does not run fast when he's been lying around.

Jed loves a good car ride. And so yesterday when I went to pick up Joey and Micah, I took him along. He curled up in the back seat and let the road lull him into a comfortable nap.

We returned home around 9:30 and when I was going to bed an hour or two later, I noticed Jed wasn't in his usual spot. I checked downstairs... sometimes he steals Dixie's bed. I called around outside. No Jed.

I almost didn't check the car. How in the world could he still be there?

But there he was indeed. Curled up, sleeping soundly. Probably figured he'd be spending the night.

Now, I am certainly glad it was a cool evening, and just to set your Jed-loving minds to rest, I don't take him in the car when it's hot outside because I do know all the warnings about dogs in cars. But he's also got to learn to actually get up and go when the time comes to get up and go.

He won't want to be left behind, after all.
